Leaks in district heating networks can be a source of major costs. A minimal leak can lead to many cubic meters of hot water gushing out, resulting in ground undermining and energy loss. In collaboration with Termisk systemteknik, Gerdes Solutions has been performing drone-borne aerial thermography of district heating networks for ten years.<\/h4>\n

\"\"Thermography with drones is well suited for smaller networks or parts of networks, but can also be used on larger networks. Thermography can be planned as part of the ongoing supervision of the network, and it can be carried out at short notice in the event of acute leaks. There is a framework agreement for this through Sinfra. Since the drones used are electrically powered, the method has a small climate footprint.<\/p>\n

The analysis and visualization of the network status that is delivered gives the customer the opportunity to quickly and easily locate energy losses due to leaks or insufficient insulation. When building new networks, it is also possible to carry out drone-borne aerial thermography during the construction work. This is to ensure the quality of the material and the installation carried out.<\/p>\n

To ensure good results, drones with calibrated Flir cameras (mainly A655sc) are used. The equipment in combination with the low flight altitude provides a high level of detail, which means that small leaks can be detected. Data collection is carried out by a certified ITC level 2 thermographer.<\/p>\n

To fly drones with a total weight of over 4 kg populated areas, the Drone Card is never sufficient, but a permit in a specific category from the Swedish Transport Agency is always required. Gerdes solutions is one of the few companies with a general permit for thermography of district heating pipes in populated areas with drones.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
