When the drone certificate or ADS training is not enough

To fly drones weighing 250 grams or more, the A1/A3 drone certificate is always required. Anyone intending to fly closer than 150 metres to residential, commercial, industrial or recreational areas also needs A2 and, in many cases, operational authorisation in the specific category in accordance with SORA or PDRA. Training for this is offered by a handful of authorised drone schools (ADS) approved by the Swedish Transport Agency. Gerdes Solutions is not an authorised drone school (ADS), but we see a clear need among companies and organisations for drone pilot training that directly matches the actual needs of the specific flight operations. In this area, we believe our long experience of drone operations and drone pilot training can contribute to more efficient and safer drone use.

Method: how the work is carried out

  1. Needs review: We receive your request and review your specific training needs together with you.
  2. Proposed setup: We return with a proposed setup for the training.
  3. Training delivery: A two-day course can, for example, include the drone system and practical handling, regulations, procedures and checklists for safe flight, basic and advanced flight operations, and application in the environment where you will use the drone.
  4. Follow-up and next steps: Some time after the training, we follow up on how the training worked for you and whether further needs exist.

Delivery:

  • Training adapted to your needs, and designed to provide direct value to your operations

Why operations-adapted training?

Formal drone certificates and standardised training provide an important foundation, but they rarely answer all practical questions in a specific organisation. Operations-adapted training allows pilots to practise the procedures, risks, checklists and environments that actually occur in your assignments.

The goal is for participants not only to understand the regulations, but also to be able to use the drone safely, efficiently and with the right method in their own organisation.

Training can be adapted to practical workflows such as thermography, photogrammetry and image collection or laser scanning with drones.

If you also need help with routines, equipment choices or permit processes, you can read more about our support for starting your own drone organisation.

Conditions and limitations

For the training to be adapted to you and provide as much value as possible, we need an open dialogue about needs, expectations and knowledge level.

Experience, permits and quality

We began working with drone flights 15 years ago and have since used drones for many different purposes. This means we have had time to try things, sometimes fail and often learn a great deal about both drones and different applications. We believe that experience is an important component when training new pilots. However, the instructor’s expertise alone does not guarantee participant development and learning. Our training is therefore designed from a learning perspective where an experienced drone pilot works together with an experienced educator.

We have carried out training for drone pilots for the past ten years. During that time, we have been entrusted with training line repairers, inspectors and volcanologists in Sweden and abroad.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the training carried out?

The training is carried out at the location that suits you best. The theoretical part is often conducted on site at the customer’s premises.

What does drone training cost?

The cost depends on factors such as the length of the training, whether the customer has the necessary equipment and where the training is carried out. Contact us and we will jointly find a suitable setup.

How many participants can take part in a training course?

For theoretical training sections, a larger number of participants often works well. For practical exercises, more than 6-8 participants at a time is usually not appropriate.

Do participants receive a certificate after the training?

No, we do not issue certificates. If requested, a training attestation can be issued.
